We Are Savages

In light of the Planned Parenthood video (embedded below) that surfaced this week, we can tragically say that our culture celebrates the most violent, inhumane, cruel acts imaginable. More than that, we pay for it, giving more than $500 million from the federal government to an organization that readily and far-too-casually admits to selling hearts, lungs, and livers from aborted babies, making sure that they do not "crush" the wanted parts, only "crushing" above or below the wanted parts.
The only words that come to mind when I see that this barbarian pracitce has become normal for our culture are the words of the prophet Jeremiah as he grieved for his people:
"My joy is gone; grief is upon me; my heart is sick within me." (Jeremiah 8:18)
I have three children and believe with all my heart that "children are a heritage from the Lord" (Psalm 127:3).
We have arrived at a time in history where we no longer view unborn babies as a heritage and blessing, but as a lifeless specimen, useful for profit and gain.
Hypocritically, we champion choice, though no one gives the unborn child a choice.
We champion women's rights, though the aborted female has no rights.
We condemn ISIS for their violence and murder, while crushing limbs of a fetus and selling off their body parts.
I fear that history will judge this culture as nothing less than savage. More significantly, however, the Word of God already speaks to the sins of our culture that have overtaken us as we have exchanged truth for a lie: We are "inventors of evil, heartless, ruthless" (Romans 1:30-31).
I know this blog will not change any views or practices, much less, any hearts. But I pray that some will have their eyes opened, their hearts pierced, and, like the crowd of the nations at Pentecost, will ask, "What shall we do?" The response comes with great hope of transformation: "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins" (Acts 2:38).
